A giant in the food industry, Nestlé announced the opening of its first regional distribution centre in Brazil at Nova Santa Rita, in Rio Grande do Sul. With the unit in operation since May this year, the company plans to sell more than 22 thousand tons of products.
According to the Director of Logistics at Nestlé Brazil, Alexandre Teixeira, the novelty is part of the company's strategy of investing in the regional distribution model, which should be expanded throughout the country. "This is the first regional Distribution Centre of many to come. We are conducting market studies in other states and should announce new points in Brazil later this year, " he says.
The new space has the operational capacity to ship 150 tons of products per day and store 7,500 pallets, the equivalent of more than a thousand items. According to Nestlé, the Distribution Centre works in partnership with the logistics operator Renovação, which already has experience serving the brand in the region.
The choice of location, according to Teixeira, was due to the growth of the market "at an accelerated pace" in the South of Brazil. "The new Distribution Centre was created and chosen to be closer to our customers, allowing an efficient and agile supply. Thanks to the implementation of local stock, we were able to reduce our delivery times in the region by more than 80%, in addition to bringing more speed in response to customer demands", he explains.
