The price of rents for commercial space located in shopping malls has already suffered the effects of inflation.
During the second quarter of 2022, they increased 10 percent annually on average nationwide.
Alejandro Delgado, SiiLA's country manager in Mexico, explained that the increase is due to the fact that property owners are having more operating expenses and leases are indexed to inflation.
"The increase in the price of rents is not because the market is growing, but rather because of inflation. Increases are expected to continue for the rest of the year," he said.
He detailed that, in Mexico City, the average monthly price per square meter increased 15 percent in the last year, as it went from 494.82 pesos, from April to June 2021, to 569.63 pesos in the same period but this year.
