Shopping Centers to be Fully Reactivated by 2024

The advance to the green epidemiological traffic light throughout the country allowed reducing capacity restrictions and schedules in shopping centers favoring the affluence; however, the occupation of the premises will take about two years to return to pre-pandemic levels.

Alejandro Delgado, Country Manager of SiiLA in Mexico, a consulting firm that analyzes the behavior of shopping centers with areas larger than 10,000 square meters, explained that this is due both to vacancies -mainly in the clothing, footwear and electronics sectors- and the opening of new shopping centers.

In addition, there was a reconfiguration in consumption during the confinement period, with the exit of Bes Buy from Mexico and the advance of e-commerce, where growth is reflected in industrial buildings and not in shopping centers.
